OUR BACKGROUND

The Insurance Helpline was set up initially to focus on life insurance as we were aware that the field of insurance in the financial services sector was much more than met the eye! Good advice was not simply about knowing your products and needs of the customer whilst instilling the customer with knowledge it was more about the health of the customer and how this would impact on the outcome of the advised product.

We understood that advising on the medical side of a life insurance policy was just important as advising on the financial side and this led us to looking at insurance from another angle that allows a more predictable and realistic outcome for our customers. The interest in the medical aspect of the insurance industry stemmed majorly from the Doctor of the family, Dr Indira Pole, who (since retiring) has joined The Insurance Helpline as our fully qualified Trust & Will Adviser. With this interest The Insurance Helpline has managed to help a number of people who have severe medical issues and challenges get insurance where they thought it would not be possible or had been turned down in the past. Working alongside Indira is myself Fenella Pole (Company Director & Financial Adviser) and my Brother Kieran Pole (Financial Adviser & Business Adviser Specialist).

WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT OUR ADVICE?

For insurance we start with the basics; ‘your needs’. Always remembering that an insurance is a ‘needs based product’ and this details the figures for the advice. Next step is focus on your medical disclosures and this is where our knowledge is second to none.

Throughout the years of advising we have built our knowledge base on medical conditions and their treatments to make sure we can:

  1. Help jog our customers memories when thinking of their medical condition,
  2. Allow a more accurate and thorough representation of any medical disclosures,
  3. Give a prediction of the impact or outcome of the policy decision before submitting (right there and then in most instances).

It is at this point that The Insurance Helpline has an unorthodox approach to ‘helping our customers’. If a customer has a number of medical disclosures it may be difficult to find a Provider that will Insure them. Most other IFA’s would submit to only one Provider and if that Provider declined the customer from getting insurance with them the IFA may not try elsewhere and the customer may think that they are not able to get insurance at all. This may NOT be the case. The Insurance Helpline will always seek to submit to various providers to get you insurance or even battle with a decision which we deem unfair based on medical proof and claims facts. This is where we are different, we see the person needing the insurance FIRST then the insurance!

Most of all we want to help our customers! Having been running now for over 7 years we have (in the last 2 years predominantly) helped our customers from moving house to writing wills and power of attorney to making claims. Our aim is to diversify according to our customers’ needs. We always help but we make sure we listen to what our customers are saying first.

Sponsorship

The Insurance Helpline has actively sponsored a number of events and teams for different sports throughout its time. Our sponsorships support has been focused around either a sport we play and compete in and or a sport that our customers (or their children) play and compete in.

Our thought behind our latest sponsorship of Western Lawn Tennis and Squash Club is to promote the sport of Squash hopefully pushing it forward into the public eye more. Squash is a fast moving sport and an excellent cardiovascular workout and is a game that can be played at any age and is easy to learn! The health benefits of any sport are huge to any person playing it and this is the element that ties into insurance!

Promoting good health will inevitably reduce health issues or even stop them from occurring and this in turn allows insurance to be easier accepted and less likely of claiming on it. And although we all advisably need insurance, we ideally don’t want to claim on it!

Refugee Football Festival Scotland 2021

When: On Sunday 8th August 2021
The Insurance Helpline will be proudly sponsoring Refugee Festival Tournament. The one-day “celebration of the beautiful game” has been organised by the Scottish Unity Football League, which promotes prejudice-free sport for “New Scots and Scots born here alike”. This includes asylum seekers, refugees, migrants and more.  The tournament is endorsed by UEFA, and has been running annually since 2012.  It is a Euros style 7 a side tournament featuring 24 teams.   The venue is Toryglen (near Hampden stadium), and the tournament will take place on a single day – 8th August, between 11:00 16:00.  The tournament is chaired by Abdul Bostani, who arrived the UK as a refugee fleeing the Taliban in Afghanistan 20 years ago. He has also ran as an SNP constituent in a local election in recent years.

Three of the 10 players in the team were three of the six victims stabbed in the Park Inn Hotel attack on 26th 2020. They have now made a full recovery, but are active participants of calls for huge changes to the current system of using city centre hotels as accommodation for newly arrived asylum seekers in Glasgow. Glasgow City Council have refused to take any more asylum seekers until there are suitable arrangements in place with the UK Home Office, and housing provider Mears Group.

Afghan United are one of the teams that play weekly league matches in Glasgow, as part of the Scottish Unity Football League, which Abdul Bostani chairs. Universal FC are another of the teams that play in the league.
