Why Make a Will

It is a well-known fact that a Will is the most important document anyone will ever write but it is also something we all tend to put off till ‘later’, and ‘later’ could be too late because dying without a Will is not without its consequences.

  • Your estate (your money, possessions and property after you die) however big or small will be distributed according to law

  • This will be based on Intestacy (ruled by law) and not as per your wishes

  • It is costly and stressful for the family members

  • If children are minor (under 16) and/or disabled, then they go into government care until the court decides who parents them, which can take months/years

  • It is not tax efficient

  • Unmarried partners receive nothing

  • Your funeral wishes will not be carried out

If you have any asset however small, have beneficiaries (partner, husband, children and no children) you must have a Will to protect your beneficiaries, to protect your estate from excessive taxation, to protect from Intestacy, to avoid administration cost (court and solicitor’s fees) and much more. To protect your children if not of adult age by appointing Guardians which prevents UK social services taking over their care.

To assess your estate for potential Inheritance Tax (IHT) and to create a trust for your beneficiary, the first step is to have a legally valid Will. Our Will Adviser will discuss and explain this to you.

As per Government announcement the IHT legislation is in process of changing to higher Tax from April 2027. It is a complex subject and requires pre-planning to mitigate IHT using legal solutions. Our Will Writing Service includes and initial consultation with our Will Adviser free of charge.
